The First Research Conference in Contemplative Science
From the Heart of Herbal Medicine - A Vision of the Future
The conference took place in April 2003 at the spectacular Ross Priory, Gartocharn, on the shores of Loch Lomond in glorious weather.
Speakers included:
Brian Goodwin PhD, Pioneer of Holistic Science
Christopher Hedley AHG, Champion of traditional Herbal Medicine
Midge Whitelegg PhD MNIMH, Research Herbalist and Goethean Science advocate
Margaret Colquhoun PhD, Main Authority on Goethean Science in the UK.
Part of the conference was given over to presentations of dissertations, by the first ever cohort of MSc Herbal Medicine graduates in Europe, a unique event to set a precedent in herbal medicine research.
Students and practitioners alike involved in research projects in herbal medicine or in herbal research found valuable information and important issues generated by this conference.
The main speakers concentrated on Paradigm Shift of Research Approach; Holistic Science and Goethean/Contemplative Science - all delivered in a hands on, experiential way, relevant and directly applicable to any new Herbal Research.
The aim of the conference was to establish a holistic, as opposed to a reductionist, framework for future Herbal Research.
We are pleased to report that the conference was fully booked and that all the speakers were well received by the delegates. Speakers and delegates had travelled from all over the UK, Europe, USA and Canada to unite in this memorable journey.
THE JOURNAL OF CONTEMPLATIVE SCIENCE
The Conference also saw the launch of a new CD ROM and Web based Journal, The Journal of Contemplative Science, now re-launched as The Scottish Journal of Herbal Medicine.
